Solar Festive Lights

When some people think of Diwali or other festival lights, they have fond memories of staring at all the pretty decorations in the neighborhood. Lights that surround the porch, line the roof, or adorn the outdoor trees can be very beautiful and often serve as a creative outlet for holiday lovers all over. In these tight financial times, however, one might be tempted to look at the decorative lights and think about the electric bill that's adding up. Luckily, there is a bright sunny solution to the problem that allows you to keep your creativity and set those lights up anyway.

"Solar Festive lights?", you might ask. It does seem strange that something that is meant to function in the dark could draw from the sun as its power source. The real secret is a hidden battery wired into the solar collector. The solar panel collects the sun's rays all day and uses the battery to power the lights at night. The lighting system uses an optical sensor to 'know' the difference between day and night.

The burgeoning market for solar decorative lights has brought with it a wide variety of styles and colors to choose from. The solar strings are practically indistinguishable from the old style electric type when viewed from the street because they are just as bright. They use low energy LED's to make their light, so they can burn brighter than an incandescent bulb and they last longer on less power. The collector can even be hidden inconspicuously in the yard to do its work during the day.
